My Story

Hi, I’m Randall.

I’m married to my best friend Kristi and I have three daughters.

My primal story really started in December of 2011 when my wife purchased the book Primal Blueprint Quick and Easy meals. But let’s back up a little bit. When I got married in November of 2009 we ate a lot of spaghetti, potatoes and Baker’s burritos. I also would sit on the couch and eat almost a whole tub of pretzels from Costco in one sitting. It didn’t help that I transitioned from an active college student lifestyle where I was skateboarding to class all the time to a sedentary desk job. All wasn’t bad though because my wife got me to eat food I never ate growing up like scrambled eggs. I know, I was sheltered, I hated scrambled eggs. I preferred 3 bowls of Honeycomb instead for breakfast. Well, this ultimately led to gnarly weight gain in my first year of marriage. I went from always being skinny to insidious weight gain. From about 150lbs to 180lbs in the matter of two years. At the end of 2011 my wife really wanted to start eating better so she looked on Amazon and found the Quick and Easy meal book. Once it came in from Amazon I picked it up for whatever reason and started reading what Primal and Paleo was all about. This led me to purchase Mark Sisson’s other book called 21 Day Body Transformation of which I followed for 21 days. After the 21 days I felt better, lost weight and ultimately got down to around 150lbs 6 months later. Ever since then I have been hooked on all things Primal and Paleo. I started reading tons of blog posts on Mark’s Daily Apple and really understood the science behind the Ancestral Health movement. From there I started cooking more, exercising more, sleeping more and getting in the sun more. Today I’m still at 150lbs, still doing the primal essential movements, trying to get in the sun everyday and trying to get 7–8 hours of sleep. My friends and people from work always ask me “You still primal?” It’s a funny question because I never really looked at Primal as a diet. I understood how bad industrial seed oils, processed sugar and gluten were for my body. Therefore the idea of “stopping” being Paleo/Primal wasn’t something that really ever crossed my mind. So yes – I’m still Primal. Since 2011.

I don’t have Celiacs or some other Auto Immune disease like a lot of people do coming into Paleo. However I still love eating this way because I feel better and I never have to think about losing/gaining weight.

I’m not a cook, I’m a graphic designer by day. I probably do a lot of things wrong like holding a Chef’s knife wrong and dicing onions wrong. But I’ve been doing the cooking in my family now since 2011 and I’ve learned a lot and still have a long way to go. The reason I made this blog was really just to gather my favorite recipes that I’ve tweaked or come up with or even family recipes all in one place, as well as share some insights on the primal/paleo lifestyle that I’ve picked up along the way.
